“Impressive” — that was the first word that came to mind walking into the doors of the Pender Community Center for the first time.
Impressive in size, design and function, and also in the turnout of Pender patrons and visitors from other communities that filled the massive space and flowed through the hallways and into each room for tours of the facility. I found myself “people watching” a lot of the night. Not with intention necessarily but because of the emotion that was so evident on many faces.
Kids with wide eyes in awe of the size of the facility and the excitement that was running through their minds looking at the batting cage suspended above them or the basketball court they were running circles on.
Veterans who were proud to watch people count the number of flags on display in their beautiful new meeting room that overlooks the Veterans Memorial Park.
Fitness buffs or others like me hoping to be, looking at the state-of-the-art work out equipment offered by Anytime Fitness.
As we were enjoying the meal together, my husband looked at our two daughters and told them how someday this is where their wedding receptions will be held. This of course years from now when they are over the boys are gross phase.
I am very much looking forward to the next event I get to attend at the community center whether that be a basketball tournament, wedding or anything in between. I am proud to be part of this community and look forward to years of memories made in our new community center.
