The Publisher's Pen

New look for your Pender Times comes at a time of great change

Pender has been getting a face lift over the past year or two with large construction projects underway all over the community. After more than eight years of publishing The Pender Times, it seemed like there was no better time than to also give the newspaper a new look with a nod to all that is going on here.

Last week, we launched a product with a bit of new life breathed into it. My hope is that seeing color on the pages of the paper will be a welcomed addition for our subscribers.

But just as new brick and mortar can be welcome in a community, the core of what Pender and this area is has not changed. Nor will the basic building blocks that constitute The Pender Times.

Anytime we look at making changes, the essence of the newspaper needs to remain intact. It is my hope that our longtime readers who make this newspaper possible with their patronage find that to be the case.

Color will be infused onto the pages whenever possible. It will, going forward, require some investment from our advertisers. We have done color pages at times in the past, but not without a great amount of pre-planning. Some changes we’ve been able to make recently will open up more color opportunities each week to those advertisers who find value in attracting attention to their products. Anyone with questions about how to go about getting full color placement in the newspaper can contact us for details. It’s surprisingly affordable.

PHS fall musical deserves some ink this week

Pender Public Schools should be commended for its wonderful fall musical that was presented this past weekend. “Back to the 80s” featured a number of music hits from that era, and the students performed them admirably over and over.

The school used to do a production in the spring but switched that to fall this year. The students featured in the production worked all summer long on their parts and spent countless hours practicing, particularly in recent weeks to prepare. From the sets, to the acting and singing, the students were well-prepared and entertaining. For those who missed it, it really was your loss. Be sure to get to whatever next year’s musical happens to be.

For those who made it to the show, enjoy reliving it on the back page of this week’s issue with photos of several scenes.

Great job to everyone involved. It was as good a day to be a Pendragon as any!
