Larry Lewon, 58

Larry J. Lewon, 58, of Newcastle passed away at his residence on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services were at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Gospel Chapel in Newcastle. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17 at the church. Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca handled the arrangements.

Larry was born on Feb. 23, 1960, in Sioux City, the son of Leroy and Hazel (Cisney) Lewon. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1978. He worked for his Dad at L & L Sinclair Service Station in South Sioux City and sold auto parts for Interstate Auto Supply. He also worked at Hy-Vee from 1998 to 2016. Larry was blessed with two children and moved to the family farm in rural Newcastle in 2001.

He was a member of the Gospel Chapel in Newcastle. He had a great passion for his grandchildren and his dog, Jethro. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap and target shooting, and cars. Larry loved to visit and coffee with his friends.

Survivors include a son, Mitch and Brooke Lewon and their children, Heidi, Lane, and Halley of Newcastle; daughter, Sarah and Justin Slagle and their children, Noah and Reid of Hartington; sister, Lori and Val Stanek of Decatur; brother, Butch and Karen Lewon of Yankton, South Dakota; and sister-in-law, Ava Lewon of Bronson, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Hazel Lewon; and a brother, Bill Lewon.

Lonny Book, 73 

Lonny Lynn Book, 73, of South Sioux City passed away on Sept. 11, 2018, in South Sioux City.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. Burial was in the Ponca Cemetery in Ponca. Visitation began at 5 p.m., with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Lonny was born on May 8, 1945, in Laurel, Nebraska, the son of William and Florence (Zinn) Book. He graduated from Allen High School in 1963 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1965 to 1971. Lonny married Sallie Putnam on Sept. 18, 1965. Lonny was co-owner of L&L Builders Co and L&L Book Properties.

He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the Associated General Contractors of America, Master Builders of Iowa, and the SSC Rotary Club for a number of years. He enjoyed camping, garden and yard work, woodworking and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Sallie Book of South Sioux City; daughters, Lynnette (Mark) Warnock of Raleigh, North Carolina and Lesa Morten of South Sioux City; four grandchildren, Adam Morten of Dallas, Texas, Emily Morten of South Sioux City, Kaili Warnock and Taylor Warnock of Raleigh; brothers, John Book of Martinsburg, and Larry Book of Sioux City; and a sister, Donna Johnson of San Diego.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Florence Book; a brother, Royal Book; sisters-in-law, Maxine and Jeanene Book; and a brother-in-law, Dean Johnson.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
