Bonnie Bostwick, 79

Bonnie Rae Bostwick, 79, of Ponca, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, at a Sioux City Hospital.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at United Methodist Church in Ponca with the Rev. Cathy Cole officiating. Burial was in Southcreek Calvary Cemetery near Ponca. Visitation with the family present was Thursday evening at 5 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at United Methodist Church. Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca was in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie Rae Backman was born Oct. 19, 1938, near Ponca to Clarence and Zadia (Bass) Backman. She graduated from Ponca High School. Bonnie married Paul Dale Jones June 2, 1955. She was a devoted mother to their two children Craig and Debbie. She worked in Ponca at the ASCS office, Dixon County Judges office, and the Bank of Dixon County. Her husband Dale died in 1972. On Dec. 10, 1987, Bonnie married Lionel (Chris) Bostwick at Las Vegas and they attended the first of many National Rodeos together. Bonnie became a mother to Chris’s children Lynne and Chad.

Gramma always had cookies for the grandkids, coffee for drop in visitors, and kept her family supplied with elderberry jelly. She also loved a good game of cards.

Survivors include her husband Lionel (Chris) Bostwick, her children: Paul Craig (Tina) Jones of Newcastle, Debbie (Joe) O’Neill of Jackson, Lynne (Bob) Wilcke of Ponca, and Chad Bostwick of Ponca, her grandchildren: Matt (Becky) Jones, Marcus (Mandy) Jones, Jason Jones and fiancé Ali, Elise (Mitch) Lowe, Katelyn O’Neill, Maggie (Montana) Treadway, Sadie (Travis) Voss, Christiana (Matt) Koeppe, Sam (Annie) Fleury, Nick (Krista) Fleury, Jesse Fleury, Colton (Danielle) Bruggeman, Roger (Crystal) Heath, Shiron Heath, Robert Heath and 22 great-grandchildren. Her siblings: Clara Eschenbaum, Arlene Chase, Andy (Mary) Backman, Patty (Terry) Jonason, Connie Gubbels, her brothers-in-law: Roger Bostwick, Clement Bostwick, sisters-in-law: Mildred White, Jan Backman, Carol Bostwick, Cleo Waters, Trudy (Rick) Pinkelman and Gloria Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Dale Jones, parents Clarence and Zadia Backman, parents-in-law: Delbert and Kathleen Jones, Hugh and Fern Bostwick, Gene and Berenice Fluent, brothers: Doyle (Pat) Backman, Evan Backman, brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill Chase, Clyde Bostwick, Gary Nelson, Sharon Bostwick, Jerry (Grace) Jones, and Merle White.

Joseph Fredricksen, 79

Joseph A. “Joe” Fredricksen, 79, of South Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at his residence.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., with the family present at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Joe was born on Feb. 16, 1939, in Yankton, South Dakota, the son of Clarence and Vernice (Weed) Fredricksen. He attended East High School in Sioux City. He worked as a mechanic for Kidder- Knoepfler in Sioux City. Joe married Diane Cooley in 1959 in Sioux City. They lived in Sioux City and were blessed with six children. He also worked for Metz Baking Company, retiring in 1997. He moved to South Sioux City. Joe and Karolyn Smith were married on Dec. 31, 1986, in Elk Point, South Dakota.

He loved collectible and antique cars, and tinkering on his 1950 Chrysler Royal, for which he earned many first place trophies at car shows. He also enjoyed having lunch and listening to music at the South Sioux City Senior Center.

Survivors include his wife, Karolyn Fredricksen; children, Thomas, Timothy (Mary), Theodore, Tamie and Teresa Fredricksen and Terri (Todd) Karr; grandchildren, TJ Fredricksen, Theresa (Mike) Bigge, Joe Fredricksen, Chad (Shawleen) Fredricksen, Travis (Jasmine) Gartner, Brianna Geesaman, Christopher Schaaf, George Hebert, Shelby, Amber and Austin Karr; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister Marjory (Don) Zapotocky; two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Vernice Fredricksen; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Judy) Fredricksen.

Sharon Swanson, 73

Sharon Grace Swanson, 73, of Homer died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, at a local hospital. Services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Homer. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church. Mohr Funeral Home of South Sioux City was in charge of arrangements.

Sharon was born Oct. 20, 1944, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Mylet (Stark) Merrill. She was raised in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School. Sharon married Roger Swanson July 23, 1966. Together they made their home in Homer, where Sharon remained until her passing.

Sharon was deeply involved in the community, serving as a tour guide at The O’Conner House for years. She was a member of the Extension Club, Homer Homemakers, and the American Legion Auxiliary for over 40 years. Sharon was also the head librarian for years at the Village Of Homer and was a proud Avon Salesperson for over 40 years.

Survivors include her three children, Dan Swanson, Keith (Joanna) Swanson and Wendy Swanson; eight grandchildren, Carissa, Madelynn, Caitlynn, Shai, Danielle, Lena, O’Shea and Carl James; and two great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Tim Merrill.
