Betty Dreas, 83 

Betty J. Dreas, 83, of South Sioux City, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Services were 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17 at Mohr Funeral Home of South Sioux City.

Betty was born Sept. 14, 1934, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of Lester and Luella (Larson) Merchant. She grew up in Newcastle and graduated from South Sioux City High School. She married Glen Dreas Oct. 21, 1953. Together they made their home in South Sioux City. Glen died Oct. 27, 1974. Over the years, Betty worked at Economy Market and The Corner Store in the Meat Departments, and retired from Security Land Title.

Betty was an antiquer. She loved going to flee markets and garage sales and enjoyed playing bingo.

Survivors include five children, Cynthia Johnson of Sioux City, Connie (Curt) Ferdig of North Sioux City, South Dakota, Glen A. Dreas of South Sioux City, Jeanne (Kurt) Kinlund of Tecumseh, Nebraska and John Dreas of South Sioux City; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Bryce Ferdig; one brother, Leroy Merchant and two sisters, Darlene Marmo and Donna Braaten.

Betty O'Neill, 86

Betty Deloras O’Neill, 86, of South Sioux City died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial was in St. Michaels Cemetery in South Sioux City.

Betty was born Sept. 5, 1931, in South Sioux City, the daughter of George and Alice (Laird) DeRoin. She grew up in South Sioux, graduating from South Sioux City High School in 1949. She continued her education at Wayne State University. Betty married Lester Barnes June 3, 1950. She later married Robert O’Neill on Jan. 25, 1984. Over the years, Betty worked as head of the Selective Service during the Vietnam War, was a Realtor, was the Dakota County Assessor for 25 years and was a Dakota County Commissioner for 5 year.

Betty was a politician and loved to dance. She also enjoyed cooking and baking.

Survivors include her husband, Robert O’Neill of South Sioux City; son, Ronald (Patty) Barnes of South Sioux City, daughter, Valerie (John) Danielson of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; step-son, Kelly (Etta) O’Neill of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Brandon Danielson, Tiffani Cain, Jake Danielson, Travis Barnes and Justin Barnes; 11 great-great grandchildren; Payton, Garrett, Isabelle, Sawyer, Keagan, Kadyn, Ashlie, Zoe, Madison, TayLeigh, and Avery; a brother, Randy (Linda) DeRoin of Sioux City; and her beloved poodle, Baby.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester Barnes, and a granddaughter, Tasha Alissa Danielson.
