Luella Mutz, 93

Luella S. Mutz, 93, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Pender, died Friday, March 17, 2017, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Sioux City. 

Burial will be 10 a.m. on Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pender.  

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Sioux City (previously known as Morningside Presbyterian Church).  

Christy-Smith Funeral Home of Morningside assisted the family with arrangements. 

Paul Henschke, 85

Paul M. Henschke, 85, of Wayne, died Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne. 

Funeral services were held Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield, with Pastor William Bertrand officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Wakefield Cemetery. 

Paul was born on April 10, 1932 to Adolph and Dora (Frevert) Henschke in rural Wakefield. He was baptized May 15, 1932 and confirmed June 10, 1945 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wakefield. He attended District 27 School. 

On November 7, 1952, Paul married Arlene Mae Kubik at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the couple had four children. Paul was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and later St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. Paul was a farmer, a Moorman Feeds salesman, and he later worked at Michael’s Foods and the Wayne Postal Service. He enjoyed playing pool, playing cards, and traveling to Branson, Mo., and Buhl, Idaho. 

Paul loved spending time with his grandkids, great-grandkids and his coffee buddies.

Paul is survived by his wife, Arlene Henschke of Wayne; son, Terry (Jodene) Henschke of Wakefield; Tom (Alyce) Henschke of Wakefield, Tony (Shari) Henschke of Pender; daughter, Teresa (Gaylen) Fischer of Allen; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Dora; sister, Erna Bottger; brother-in-law Erwin Bottger; and niece, Edith Anderson.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.

Randy Dirks, 58

Randy A. Dirks, 58, of South Sioux City, died on July 31, 2017. Services were held on

Saturday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Dirks was born on September 29, 1958 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He

graduated from Central Lyon High School and from Iowa Lakes Community

College in Emmetsburg, Iowa, with a degree in automotive technology.

He married Margaret Voss of Emerson on July 23, 1982 in Emerson.

Margaret is the daughter of the late Henry and Goldie Voss and a 1975

graduate of Emerson-Hubbard.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; daughters, Jacque (Patrick) Kelly of Brooklet, Ga., and Jimi (Brandon) Byrnes of Statesboro, Ga., and a son John Dirks of South Sioux City, two brothers and four grandchildren.

Judy Eriksen, 66

Judy V. Eriksen, 66, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, died August 6, 2017 in Fremont.

Memorial service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Moser Memorial Chapel of Fremont. The Rev. Scott Jensen officiated. Burial will be at a later date.  

Memorials are suggested to the family for a charity yet to be determined.

Judy was born in West Point on November 14, 1950 to Leroy and Vernice (Hoge) Ahrndt. 

She married Jim Eriksen in 1975 in Pender. She was vice president of the Women’s Golf Association in Bella Vista, and volunteered tutoring for the Ambassadors for Christ Academy in Bentonville, Arkansas.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; daughters, Wendi Eriksen of Bentonville, Sylvia (Travis) Norris of Bella Vista; brothers, Rodney Ahrndt of Scribner, Leroy (Molly) Ahrndt of Casper, Wyoming; sister Sylvia (David) Oldenburg of Fremont and three grandchildren.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Robin Newcomb and nephew, Jimmy Odvody.
