While sending inmates to other nearby county jails has helped alleviate some of the overcrowding, some say the overcrowding has influenced sentencing decisions at the judicial level.

The Pender High School boys and girls basketball teams took part in the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout basketball tournament hosted by Wayne State College over the weekend. The tourney proved tough for both squads, and the girls were the only of the two to bring home a win.

|Downtown revitalization gets another boost|
Pender was among four communities in Nebraska to receive Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) for Downtown Revitalization Planning from the Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District. The Village of Pender was awarded $30,000 to be used for restoring and visually improving the downtown area.|
