Pender Postmaster Mike Eilerts retired from the Postal service after 37 years of postal work. Those years included 14 different post offices, with his last 5 1/2 years spent here in Pender.
“I love all the customers, staff and community of Pender and am thankful for my years here. Everyone in Pender has been excellent,” Eilerts said.
“I have just enough years in with postal service to retire and I am still young enough to try some new ventures. I am looking forward to spending more time with my wife Connie, children and five grandchildren” he said.
Of those five grandchildren three were born in the last three months which included a set of twins.
“I will be more available to help with the family and even pick up my five year old granddaughter from preschool now” Eilerts said.
Taking over postmaster duties here in Pender will be Dawn Calkin, who is the current postmaster in West Point.
