March 26 was a day to remember for the South Sioux City fire department. Five new full-time members and three captains were pinned during that night's city council meeting, making the local fire department larger than it's ever been at 10 full-time employees including the fire chief.

“I couldn't be prouder of the council,” said Fire Chief Clint Merithew. “We're strong, we've got great people and we'll keep moving forward.”

The newly pinned firefighters were Kevin Ott, Brandon McCune, Aaron McCoy, Zach Daniels and Kevin Eischeid. The five additional firefighters ensures that three firefighters will be on staff at all times.

The three captains pinned were Jay Mathis, Payne Allen and Qwinn Wright.

“It's a great day for the citizens of this city,” said councilman John Sanders.
