The South Sioux City cross country teams both finished seventh in their respective races at Thursday’s Plattsmouth Invitational.

Zekariya Abdela claimed runner-up honors in the boys 5,000-meter race, coming home with a time of 17:14.7 seconds to lead the Cardinals’ effort in the boys race.

Juan Balderas followed in 20th place, Mubarek Abdela was 37th, Dhugomsa Mohammed was 39th, Nahum Sabino finished 46th and Vincent Ibarra was 49th. Blair broke the tie with the Cardinals for sixth place. Omaha Skutt claimed the team title, with Gretna finishing second.

In the girls race, Emane Ahmed placed 18th in 22:49.0 and Tuenedi Villicana was 24th to lead the Lady Cardinals. Sadie Rocha was 34th, Ximena Alvarez was two spots back in 36th, Ruby Castillo finished two spots behind in 38th and Marybeth Rasmussen finished 45th.

In JV action, Weston Wilson led the SSC boys with a 39th place finish, while Madison Newell was the top runner for the Lady Cards, finishing 12th.

Next action for the Cardinals is Thursday at the Fremont Invitational.
